Inspiration

As our chosen genre of film will be social realism. We wanted to focus our theme on the epidemic crisis of British gang culture. The representation of teenagers in the media is very over dramatic and unrealistic, the media only shows the vicious behaviour of teenagers but not the reasons behind it  we wanted to take a different approach to dealing with teenagers and gang culture. We have used books and film extracts to research and gain some inspiration for our five minute film.

'You all a bunch. You know why? You don't have the guts to be what you wanna be? You need people like me. You need people like me so you can your fucking fingers and say 'that's the bad guy' so... What that make you? Good? You're not good. You just know how to hide, how to lie. Me, I always tell the truth. Even when I lie. So say goodnight to the bad guy! Come on. The last time you gonna see a bad guy like this again, let me tell you. Come on. Make way for the bad guy. There's a bad guy coming through! Better get outta his way!'

Reading the book 'One blood' by John Heale he expresses that on his many encounters with gang member many of them seem to have a different variation of this speech given by Tony Montana (Al Pacino) in Scarface. There is some truth within this..

In the last five years, Britain's criminal gangs have changed. Their
members are younger than ever before, with children as young as six
joining them. Since then, it seems not a week goes by without another
senseless killing. Already by summer 2008, London has seen over 20
brutal slayings of teenagers by teenagers, proving that the
consequences of hyper-aggression and knife crime affect every
community. This is the first full-length study of Britain's new gang
culture, centered on the words of the kids themselves. The author has
secured access to dozens of young men involved in the lifestyle, from
high-ranking to low, and every chapter is based on first-hand
testimonies of their day-to-day reality. None of them has been
previously interviewed. There are contributions also from
psychologists, academics and the police, providing the most
comprehensive analysis of what gang life does to society and
individuals. *Blurb from John Heale - One Blood*
