Casting
When looking for actors to be featured in our film, we decided that it would be best to use people from around the area that we were basing the film as we felt it would be highly representative of the gang culture within that area. We wanted inexperienced actors as 1. it would be cheaper and suitable for the budget that we had set and 2. We would be following the conventions of an existing social realist text. We managed to get hold of five actors who were all inexperienced except from the main character who has had a little bit of experience but not to a high extent.
Main Characters
The main character Jamal, will be played by Sean Flores a young boy from the area of Wandsworth - he has had a bit of experience with acting as he does modelling and a few acting jobs when he has spare time. He doesn't mind working for free as he wants to build up his portfolio. Sean is very commited and passionate about any acting job he gets which is why it will be a pleasure working with him.
The gang leader, will be played by Harry Turkson - who has had no experience within the field of acting whatsoever but is willing to try his best.
